Ramadan the blessed month

so even tho it hasnt been announced here yet in algeria but the feeling is that ramadan is tomorrow .......

so i wish all of you a blessed ramadan and may allah reward you all in this month...... may he guide you all to true happiness and full eman and reward you all for the action you take in this month

Allah's Apostle said, "When the month of Ramadan starts, the gates of the heaven are opened and the gates of Hell are closed and the devils are chained." [Bukhari] ...

Narrated Abu Huraira(r.a): The Prophet said:"... whoever fasts during Ramadan out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's rewards, then all his past sins will be forgiven." (Sahih Al-Bukhari).

"...whoever witnesses the Month of Ramadan should fast through it..." Q(2:185)

"Ramadan is the (month) in which the Quran was sent down, as a guide to mankind and a clear guidance and judgment (so that mankind will distinguish from right and wrong).." (Q 2:183)

"Oh you who believe! Fasting is prescribed to you as it was prescribed to those before you, that you many learn piety and rightousness" (Qur'an, al-Baqarah, 2:183)

"...And it is better for you that ye fast, if ye only knew." (Q 2:184)

The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) addressed his companions on the last day of Sha`ban, saying, "Oh people! A great month has come over you; a blessed month; a month in which is a night better than a thousand months; month in which Allah has made it compulsory upon you to fast by day, and voluntary to pray by night. Whoever draws nearer (to Allah) by performing any of the (optional) good deeds in (this month) shall receive the same reward as performing an obligatory deed at any other time, and whoever discharges an obligatory deed in (this month) shall receive the reward of performing seventy obligations at any other time. It is the month of patience, and the reward of patience is Heaven. It is the month of charity, and a month in which a believer's sustenance is increased. Whoever gives food to a fasting person to break his fast, shall have his sins forgiven, and he will be saved from the Fire of Hell, and he shall have the same reward as the fasting person, without his reward being diminished at all." [Narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah]
It is called the night of Power (i.e Laelat-ut Qadr) or the night of blessing (Laelat-ul mubarak). The deed in this night is better than the rewards of deeds of 1,000 months (about 83.3 years).

"Indeed We have revealed it (Qur'an) in the night of Power. And what will explain to you what the night of Power is? The night of Power is better than a thousand months. Therein descends the Angels and the Spirit (Jibreel) by Allah's permission, on every errand: (they say) "Peace" (continuously) till the rise of Morning!" Q(97:1-5)

Abu Said al-Khudri reported that the Messenger of Allah, said: "No servant fasts on a day in the path of Allah except that Allah removes the hellfire seventy years further away from his face." This is related by "the group," except for Abu Dawud.

`Abdullah ibn `Amr reported that the Messenger of Allah, salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam, said: "The fast and the Qur'an are two intercessors for the servant of Allah on the Day of Resurrection. The fast will say: 'O Lord, I prevented him from his food and desires during the day. Let me intercede for him.' The Qur'an will say: 'I prevented him from sleeping at night. Let me intercede for him.' And their intercession will be accepted." [Ahmad]

Abu Umamah reported: "I came to the Messenger of Allah and said: 'Order me to do a deed that will allow me to enter Paradise.' He said: 'Stick to fasting, as there is no equivalent to it.' Then I came to him again and he said: 'Stick to fasting."' [Ahmad, an-Nasa'i, and al-Hakim].

fresh from the sea

so now summer is here it`s time for sardines .... every morning you will here the local men going around with their carts filled with sardines and all you will here is ya sardine... ya sardine ......

today was one of those day and most of the time it can be expensive to buy but at this time of the year masha`allah the price has come down ...... so today was sardines

every home has it`s way of cooking and making sardines ...... it can be made in a red sauce with garlic ... or cleaned and spice thrown over it and then coated in semolina or flour ...... i personally prefer flour and so does my dh .... so in my house today we  pu black pepper ... cumin.... and rasel hanout ( which is a mixture of spice ) ... salt .... and garlic ....   and tomato puree .....quantities  all depends on how much sardine you are using

now even with all that their is no such thing as waste ... in my dh family they dont like to throw away the flour that they coated the sardines in so they will ad a little extra spice and salt and mix with a little flour and make  kissera and the fry that once the sardines have been fried

I`ve never been one for frugal ...... well at least i thought i wasnt ... but as of lately i have had to really watch the pennies .... which is a hard job and i take my hat of to those who have done it or are doing it

after living with my dh family for 2 years i did manage to pick up a few tricks of the trade and one of those was a chuchkuka  with veg ...such a simple dish and tasty

for this one the ingerdients are

3 peppers
1 big onion
3 tomatoes
1 aubergine
4 big potatoes
black pepper and salt

slice all veg in long strips
then place onion on bottom
then tomatoes
then peppers
the aubergine
the slice potaoes like you would if make chips (fries)

sprinkle a pinch of black pepper and salt and place a lid of top of saucepan (non stick would be better)

leave on a low heat ... their is no need for water unless you find it sticking a little on the bottom ... then just add a few drops

it takes about 20/30 mins to cook

spinach is also a very frugal dish and can be used in many dishes ..... as you would have seen in another post of mine ...... but today i just kept it simple

here i used 4 bunches of spinach

garlic ( as much or as little as you want )
i used abiout 5 cloves as i love garlic
black pepper and salt
3 eggs

i cut the spinch into very small pieces and then place in a pot and covered with a little water to boil it  when finished  cooking i drained it and left it to cool down then squezzed the water out

at this stage i place it into a frying pan with the crushed/grated garlic
black pepper and salt
and a little oil and cooked a little bit to allow the garlic to cook  then i added the eggs and mixed and allowed it to cook

now form where my mother in law comes from they like to add a little tomato puree to the mixture before adding the eggs and then the will drizzle some olive oil over it

well which ever way you choose it`s best eaten with a crusty french stick

Hadith of the day

Patients - 2nd Sha'aban 1432 (3rd July 2011)

Narrated Abu Huraira (Radi-Allahu 'anhu):

I heard Allah's Apostle (Sallallahu 'Alaihi Wa Sallam) saying, "The good
deeds of any person will not make him enter Paradise." (i.e., None can
enter Paradise through his good deeds.) They (the Prophet's companions)
said, 'Not even you, O Allah's Apostle?' He said, "Not even myself, unless
Allah bestows His favor and mercy on me." So be moderate in your religious
deeds and do the deeds that are within your ability: and none of you should
wish for death, for if he is a good doer, he may increase his good deeds,
and if he is an evil doer, he may repent to Allah."

Bukhari Vol. 7 : No. 577

This has become a favorite in my house and even to the extent that my dd12 makes it now by herself

it`s a very simple recipe but i always double the recipe to make more as i find the original to small

4 1/2 oz of flour
4 1/2 oz of sugar
2 eggs
3 1/2 floz of oil
1 tblsp of baking powder
about 3 carrots (depending on the size)

remember i always double the recipe

put sugar and oil in bowl and mix well then add eggs and baking powder and mix

grated caroots and add

then add flour little by little till all is mixed well

you can add cinnamon to it if you wish ... we also add either raisins or coconut  to the mixture

place mixture in greased tin and place in oven

as my oven only goes by numbers and my highest is 4 this is what i usually bake on

so here in algeria their are many types of dolma  the one i make the most is with potato and courgettes

and when i make it i know for sure my kids will eat it

it can be made with chickpeas or with green peas  it`s really up to you

so for a family of 6 i use  1 courgette to 2 potatoes

12 small potatoes
6 courgette
handful of chick peas or peas
1 small onion
black pepper

 Filling to stuff
mince meat
a handful of rice
black pepper

first prepare courgettes and potato by hollowing out the insides .... the courgettes the hole goes right through so you can see form both ends and the potato just half way down  then  taking the filling that you have mixed together and place a little in each of the courgettes and potatoes

dice  onion finely place in saucepan  with a little oil and soften them then add some of the inside bits of  the veg with it and continue to soften

add chick peas if using peas dont add till later

add spices and continue for a few minutes

then add some water and allow to cook for about 5 min

at this stage you place all the veg in the pot and if more water is needed add and allow to cook on a medium heat until their soft and cooked .... if your using peas then half way through the cooking add your peas

sometimes their will be a little mince left over just roll into little balls and place in the sauce to cook along with the veg

insha`allah you will enough this

So last year i was introduced to these turkish pies and we love them ... especially in ramadan as it`s a nice change to borak all the time ..... now i`m not sure where my friend got her recipe form but masha`allah it is great

this can be made many ways and the filling can be different to it can be savory or sweet it`s really up to you
