home is where the heart is

so it`s been a while since my last post  ... well what has happened ..... i`ll tell you.....

the kids are on holidays from school with today being the last day of them ... so we will be back to a school time routine .... yayyy for me ... not ....

well while we had the holidays my dad came to visit for 6 days which really wasnt enough but that was all the holiday tome he had left .... so how did it go ..... it was great and he loved it over here  .... he could speak no arabic  but ppl understood him and really liked him ... even enough to give him some free things ... believe me that made his day ....... he loved the country and insha`allah will come back next year for two weeks

but one of the great things was for me being able to cook some home cooking things that i grew up with as the rest of my family dont like it as it is to do with gravy  .... so what did i make well it`s mince with carrots and peas and onion .. black pepper ..salt ....and thyme and a stock cube and when really cook you add gravy to it to make it a little thick .... this is eaten with mash spuds ...... msha`allah it was like a dream for me and soooo tasty ...... and masha`allah i can make it more often as he brought me a never ending supply of gravy powder and granules

i also made some soda bread which i do make often but this was the first time i have made it for one of my family .... masha`allah he loved it .... but only managed a small piece as the kids went to hound on it

La Koka (algerian pizza)

we are one for pizza and this ramdan you can believe that alot of pizza was made  and eaten .... but last year i remember my dh coming home and saying i will teach you a new one ...so i said go ahead masha`allah it was delicious ....the amazing thing was their is no cheese on this pizza ...(what i hear you say).... yes no cheese so basically  i use the same pizza dough as here then i spread just tomato puree and not the sauce i usually use all over the dough ... then i cut fresh tomatoes in circles and for my dh we take the seeds out as he believes their not good for the stomach ...and i place these around the dough and into the middle .... now what make this pizza it i place sardines that have been salted and the salt remains on it  this i open and take the bones out and tear it  into little pieces and place aound the pizza when finished place in oven till dough is cooked then take out and brush some oil normal oil over the top and cut and eat ... believe you...

whats cooking

so today my mil brought me some rishta and chicken , so that was dinner for tonight rishta and i done something extra cauliflower and cheese which i love it`s a piety i didnt have brown sauce to go on top .... i know not nice ... but to me it is ingredents i pack of rishta i chicken chickpeas onion courggets luft (white raddish) or you can use parsnip black pepper salt cinnamon method chop the onion small add chicken pieces and place in a pot with a little oil and cook for a few mins then add spices and chickpeas and place lid on leave fora few mins then add some water halve way through add veg  in the meantime prepare the rishta , this can be steamed the same way as cous cous it`s just cauliflower with a bachemal sauce and cheese of your choice , i can only really get cheddar here , their are other but i`m not a cheese person so i don`t bother and if my dh was here i would put some garlic in the bachemal as that is the only way my dh will eat cauliflower enjoy

Guest post From Halal Home Cooking ....Pancakes with a twist

As-Salaamu Alaykum I'm Umm Hamza from  Halal Home Cooking  today I'm sharing a recipe for a breakfast staple with a twist. Pancakes are my children's favourite breakfast food. They will gladly eat cereal with milk, creamy porridge and jam/jelly doughnuts but unlike those aforementioned staples that only get half to three quarters eaten because A. they turn soggy B. get's cold and sticky or c. no jam left, pancakes will  always  be eaten, no excuses. Once you've honed your basic pancake recipe you are free to experiment with flavour combinations and that's exactly how these chai spiced chocolate and tahini pancakes came about ma sha Allah Source :  http://www.drinkmechai.co.uk/chai/latte/spiced-chai-latte.html I found this chai spiced latte powder whilst searching 'halal' during my on-line grocery shopping. I'm always hoping when hitting that search button new products will pop up and this time it d...
